THE MOLDY BAGELS
Fridge Magnet Concoctions. Suzanne Baumann. PO Box 1097. Farmington MI 48332 USA. $1. ¼ page size. Photocopied. 40 pages.
This is a pocket-sized comic story about a woman who discovers she has some moldy bagels that she doesn't want to eat, so she goes to the park and feeds them to the birds that, in-turn, lift her away, carrying her (apparently) to her place of employment, where she is on time for once. Although I am a little leery on the story line, I am absolutely in love with Suzanne's artwork and her pictorial comics that exist on as few words as possible. Her characters are quirky; you can tell their personalities by the way she has drawn them, accentuating just the right features to remind you of someone you know. The story, on the other hand, is weak. I have no idea what really happens in the end; well, actually I get lost somewhere in the middle when the birds begin pecking at her scarf, and then lift her away… Why? To what purpose? I am lost. The art is cute, though, and the grammar is all intact.
